My story

Holly Wilde Art

Thank you for visiting my website!

I have always loved drawing and painting from a very young age, but took quite a long break to pursue my other work. I studied Environmental Conservation at the same time I was running a Horse Riding School teaching horsemanship to people of all ages.

Since the pandemic I have had more time to reach back into my creativity, and I rekindled my love for drawing. I was immediately booked up with friends and family asking me to do commissions, and as my confidence is growing I have decided its time to host my own website (mainly to make it easier for my clients to decide on what type of portrait they would like to commission).

Featured In The Explorers Against Extinction Conservation Charity

I was thrilled that my drawing of the endangered African Wild dog was chosen in the Highly Commended Category in the Explorers Against Extinction Competition and was subsequently sold and the money went towards the conservation Charity. I had no idea when I was studying Environmental Sciences all that time ago that i would be helping in a completely different way than I could have imagined!

Creating The Artwork

Drawing and painting is a labour of love. It can take many hours to complete a customised drawing from an initial line drawing which has to be drawn to scale to fit the paper, to the base layers and finally the intricate details.

Each portrait is created using the finest artist materials. This is acid free, archival papers meaning they will last for many hundreds of years to lightfast mediums that will not fade.

Colours & Materials

I use coloured pencil as my main medium, although sometimes i will experiment with mixed media combining the pencil with watercolours, acrylics or pastels for effect. Coloured pencil is probably one of the slowest mediums to create with, taking many hours longer than traditional paints. unlike paint which is mixed on a palette, coloured pencils are mixed on the paper meaning many layers are needed to create depth of colour. however the effect is very rich and great if your looking for more detail and realism. However it can be a more expensive medium to commission, due to the time involved in creation of a customised piece of art.
